Welcome!

Welcome to Velvet Blue, LLC - formerly Anne Raker Photography. Velvet Blue is a boutique portrait photography studio located just north of Seattle, in Lake Stevens, WA. We specialize in fine art portraits that celebrate life's most important moments and relationships. Please excuse our dust as we remodel the blog and the website.

From the joy of expectant motherhood, through the miracle of a new baby and the magic of childhood, to the life-changing time that is senior year of high school, life is full of never-to-be-repeated moments. Once the moment is over, all that is left is a fading memory, and hopefully, a beautiful portrait. At Velvet Blue, our job, and our joy, is to preserve those memories forever, and to create elegant decor for your home in the process.

If you aren't familiar with Anne's work, you can see a little bit of what we do here on the blog. For more information, you can also visit our online galleries at maternity portraits, baby portraits, child portraits, and senior portraits.

When she's not in the studio, Anne loves hanging out with her family (that's Anne's daughter on the right), singing and dancing around the living room and being silly.

Please grab a cup of coffee and a piece of your favorite chocolate, and enjoy the portraits! If you have any questions, please give the studio a call at 425.350.3738 and we'll be happy to answer them!

Rockstar!

The holiday season is here and things are getting a little nutty, so I am behind on my blogging. But I had to share just one from today’s session with Baby M. Isn’t he adorable? He’s my little Rockstar baby! I bought the little cap he’s wearing a few months ago and have been waiting for the perfect little baby boy to test it out on., and I’m sure you’ll all agree I found the perfect model! I have a smaller (newborn-size) girlie Rockstar hat just waiting for the right little newborn baby girl to model it as well. ;)

Baby Portraits Seattle Snohomish County WA

Candlelight Katie…

It’s not all that often that Katie requests that I photograph her, so when she’s up for it, I try to make the most of it! This is a technique I’ve wanted to play with for a while, and I was thrilled she was patient enough to let me try it. I really love the effect, and am excited to be able to offer it as an additional session option for my clients who are looking for something really special!

Baby C and some new toys!

This little angel is Baby C… isn’t she just precious? I am in love with her bright, sparkly eyes! She was really tired when we created her portraits, and was actually asleep a few minutes before we captured this precious expression. A baby’s ability to bounce back never ceases to amaze me! She also happens to be modeling my newest set of angel wings. I absolutely love this creamy, vintage angel wings set! I picked these up when I was in Florida, along with several other great new things for babies, and will be on the lookout for baby models to show them off in the next few weeks! If you have a baby, six months old or younger, and are interested in finding out more about being a model for some of my new goodies, send me an email and I’ll fill you in on the details!

Beautiful siblings on the beach…

I was lucky enough to be able to create portraits of these three beautiful siblings while I was in Florida a few weeks ago. They were a dream to work with and couldn’t have been sweeter. T, M and K… thank you for a fabulous day at the beach!

Trying something new… Miss V, six months, part 2

This is a new little slideshow program I’m playing around with. I hope this works! If not, I will be back to update/change it in just a few hours. Enjoy!

Light Pro Expo

Some of you already know this, but for those who don’t, I was lucky enough to be able to go to Florida last week for a workshop called Light Pro Expo. It was an amazing week of learning and experimenting. It was held at the South Seas Island Resort on Captiva Island, which was absolutely gorgeous. The whole island was just breathtaking. We worked with fantastic models of all ages that were brought in to the island especially for us, and I will probably periodically share the images I created throughout the week, but I have to share this one first.

At the end of the workshop, we were given the opportunity to enter an image we created during the week in an image competition. About 45-50 images were entered in the competition, and the top 22 won prizes. I entered this one, titled “Atlas”, and it received 5th place. I was absolutely floored and thrilled!

More of Miss V….

This little angel is Miss V. at her recent six month session. Doesn’t she make a perfect little angel??? I will start booking for a special “Angels” Limited Edition session in just a few weeks, so if you like what you see here, drop me an email and I’ll let you know when I open it up to bookings! In the meantime, enjoy the sweetness that is Miss V! :)

Baby V

This little sweetheart is Miss V at three months old. She’s such a happy baby! I am so lucky to get to be a part of this very special first year of her life! I was lucky enough to photograph Miss V’s mommy when she was pregnant with their first baby, big sister Miss I, and have been watching these adorable little girls grow up ever since. I hope Miss V makes you smile as much as she does me! :)

Certified Professional Photographer!

I am thrilled to announce that I have received the distinction of Certified Professional Photographer from the Professional Photographers of America!

The CPP credential is something I have been working very hard on for the past several months. Less than 3% of working photographers in the country have earned the right to call themselves Certified Professional Photographers. The process of earning the CPP distinction is a rigorous undertaking that measures your artistic, technical, and business competence, and I fully expected it to take me a few attempts before I passed. I am so proud to be able to say that I passed both the written exam and the image review on my first attempt!

I will be printing many of the images submitted for review as studio samples. A few have actually already arrived and are just awaiting framing. If you would like to see them, just give us a call and let us know you’d like to stop by - I’d be happy to show them off!

September Blog Madness!!!

Okay, so I’m going to do something kinda crazy.

Starting tomorrow, September 7th, I’m gonna blog EVERY day for the rest of the month of September. I have NO idea what all I’m going to say, but I’m going to post something, every day - pinkie swear! :)

And if I screw up and miss a day… something good will happen for the first person to email me the next day and point it out. Maybe you’ll get a Starbucks or iTunes GC? Or maybe it will be something bigger, like a free session? I’m not sure, but it will be something good.

And one more thing… because I don’t want to just talk to myself in here, if you post a response to any of my blog posts, I’ll enter you into a weekly drawing for something fun. If you introduce a new friend to my blog, and they post to say you sent them, I’ll enter you AND your friend in the drawing twice! :) So, get to posting, and tell your friends!

P.S. - More about “Blue Christmas” coming soon!
